A System, Combination Or Regular Boiler?

Boilers come in three types system, combination and regular all work differently. The best type for your home will depend on your heating and hot water consumption.
A free survey conducted by one of our engineers will determine the best Boiler for your home and lifestyle.

System Boilers

System Boilers are highly efficient at heating your home and supplying hot water which is stored in a pressurised (unvented) cylinder. The storage cylinder ensures you always have enough hot water which can supply multiple taps at the same time.
Immersion heaters can be fitted to cylinders as a backup water heater in case you ever run into Boiler trouble.
Unlike Regular Boilers, system Boilers don’t need feed and expansion tanks in the loft, which are bulky taking up space and complex.
System Boilers are suitable for medium to large-sized homes with more than one bathroom.

Combination Boilers

Combination Boilers more commonly known as ‘Combi’ Boilers are the simplest of all Boilers and installations.
Combination Boilers don’t require storage cylinders, external pumps or water tanks. All working parts are built into the Boiler, making them quick to fit and an excellent space saver.
Water is heated instantly and delivered to the radiators and hot water taps.
Combination Boilers are preferred in small to medium-sized homes and account for around 50% of all Boiler installations in the UK.

Regular Boilers

Regular, also known as traditional Boilers, are useful for supplying a constant stream of hot water to larger homes with multiple bathrooms and taps.
Regular boilers use an external pump and a vented cylinder supplied by feed and expansion tanks. The system is fed using gravity.
In days gone by Regular Boilers were ‘the’ Boiler to have but in recent times have largely been replaced by modern combination and system Boilers.
Regular Boilers are fitted in homes with existing traditional style central heating systems and large homes with high hot water demands.

Boiler Sizes

All System, Combination and Regular Boilers are available in a range of sizes between 24-42 Kw (for domestic properties)
The size determines the number of radiators and hot taps the Boiler can serve.
Smaller Boilers are suitable for up to 10 radiators while the large sizes work for homes with over 15 radiators.
Our engineer will confirm the best size Boiler for your home during the survey.
