Paul did an excellent job troubleshooting a 16 year old concealed Hudson Reed shower. He replaced the thermostatic valve and old Bristan power pump with a Stuart Turner Showermate. All working perfectly now with a much quieter pump too!
First class, friendly efficient service.

Had an issue with our solar hot water system.
Guy who arrived was extremely friendly and professional as well as keeping his work area clean and tidy.
He kept me informed of what needed doing in the future and got our system up and running again.
Really pleased with the work carried out and the price was reasonable as well.

Boiler Servicing

All Boiler servicing is undertaken according to a set procedure outlined by the boiler manufacturer. All parts of the Boiler are covered to ensure an effective service.

Here’s an example of a typical Boiler service undertaken by Clearwater Plumbing & Heating

  1. The engineer turns up at the agreed time and presents the required Gas Safe ID, so you know you’re using an experienced, legal engineer.
  2. The casing is inspected on the outside for signs of rust or corrosion. The case is then removed and inspected on the inside before being cleaned.
  3. Corroded Boiler casing is a sign of a leak. If we find rust, we’ll locate the leak. Minor repairs can be done to damaged cases if necessary. Badly corroded cases may require replacement.
  4. All the seals and pipework are checked for corrosion, tightness and leaking. Loose connections are tightened, so any leaking ceases.
  5. The pressures are checked and monitored. A pressure that continuously drops will cause the Boiler to switch off regularly. Falling pressure is a sign of a blockage somewhere in the system. The engineer will locate any blockages.
  6. All the parts inside the Boiler are cleaned. Clean parts work better, and they allow the engineer to conduct the necessary tests with accuracy.
  7. The gas burner is thoroughly cleaned. Afterwards, the gas burner pressure is checked and adjusted to the optimal level as dictated by the Boiler manufacturer.
  8. A gas meter is utilised for a gas rate check, ensuring your Boilers burn the correct volume of gas.
  9. Next, we check the oxygen, carbon monoxide, and dioxide rates with a flue gas analyser. This test ensures the Boiler is running efficiently and doesn’t pose a carbon monoxide risk.
  10. Boilers must receive ten cubic meters of air for every cubic meter of gas burned. We check the ventilation to ensure your Boiler is getting the required amount of air.
  11. Boilers feature safety devices and relief valves to prevent damage to the Boiler in the event of a fault. All safety devices are checked and tested for correct function.
  12. The flue is checked and tested to ensure that all the waste gases are expelled safely while efficiently retaining heat. The flue is adjusted accordingly to achieve this.
  13. The Boiler and surrounding pipeworks are gone over with a gas leak detector to make sure there’s no leaking gas.
  14. The case is refitted, and the Boiler’s switched on. Our engineer will ensure your Boilers is running correctly and check the radiators are heating up.
  15. If necessary, the radiators are bled and the valves adjusted, so you have optimal heat output.
  16. Our engineer will write you an official service record. Keep the record as it validates home breakdown insurance and Boiler warranties.

Boiler Repairs

If you’re experiencing any Boiler faults, switch your Boiler off and give us a call. Running a faulty Boiler’s not a good idea; it can cause expensive damage.

Never ignore leaks, continuous stopping or weird noises, something’s not right. Leaks can be especially damaging, especially to the internal parts and electrical wiring.

It’s only a matter of time before expensive damage is caused. As soon as a problem’s discovered, get it looked at by a qualified Gas Safe Registered engineer with experience in Boiler repair.

Faulty Boilers often stop and won’t restart. Whatever issues you have, an engineer will come over to inspect and test your Boiler and establish the cause and the solution.

Boiler Pressure

The first port of call is the Boiler pressure, which reveals a lot to the engineer and what may be going on.

Boilers run at an optimal pressure too low, and the Boiler won’t function properly (if at all), too high, and the pressure relief valves may break and need replacing.

Our engineer will run your Boiler and observe the pressure. It may be the case it was never set correctly to begin with.

If the pressure falls, then there’s likely a leak somewhere in the Boiler or system, a blockage present or a faulty pressure valve.

Pilot Light

If the pressure is ok, it may be the pilot light keeps blowing out. This is usually down to a malfunctioning thermocouple.

A replacement is in order to get your Boiler running again.

Internal Inspection

By removing the case, our engineer can visually inspect your Boiler’s internal working parts.

Leaks, which cause all manner of problems, are quickly detected. If the leaks down to loose pipework, it’s tightened. If a faulty seal or valve is the culprit, they will be replaced.

If no leaks are discovered, then the next course of action is to check for blockages in the Boiler or central heating system.

Blockages

Boilers, pipes and radiators generate limescale, which can cause blockages preventing the correct pressure and flow of water.

Once the blockage has been found, it’ll need to be cleared from the part. Often, this is enough to restore the Boiler to complete working order.

Sometimes parts can be damaged by blockages, in which case the part will need to be replaced.

Unusual Noises

Unusual noises coming from the Boiler indicate there’s a blockage in the heat exchanger.

Limescale deposits can get lodged in the heat exchanger, and it’ll make a noise known as ‘kettling’, a disturbing sound similar to a boiling kettle.

Unusual noises require attention ASAP. Left unaddressed, the heat exchanger will overheat and fail, which often means a new Boiler.

We have gone through common Boiler faults. Other problems could have occurred to cause your Boiler to fail.

Whatever the problem, one of our engineers will discover the cause and swiftly repair your Boiler.
